| WASHINGTON, DC - A small rear yard visually divided into two sections. The smaller section is a space that is a long and narrow strip leading to the alley. The other is the main yard off the rear of the house. The goals were to develop the maximum amount of usable patio space and to visually unite the space. A bold diagonal low wall ending in a masonry pier punctuated by a decorative urn draws the viewers eye beyond the awkward dogleg. A lattice fence was incorporated around the property's boundaries to eliminate the clutter of neighbors inherited fences. It also acts as a vbehicle to train climbing vines and roses. An all white flowering plant pallet was selected to simplify and to add a brightness to the partially shaded garden. |
